Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman is best known for, even above his considerable acting talent, the sound of his voice. His velvety smooth baritone is among the most imitated but never quite duplicated. So of course, Jimmy Fallon took the opportunity to ruin it by forcing Freeman to inhale helium and pitch up his voice.
Freeman was a little prickly at the prospect of breathing in the dangerous gas. ‘I shouldn’t be doing this,’ the 77-year-old actor said, before playing along with Fallon. At the end of the segment, when a chipmunk-voiced Fallon invited him to come back, Freeman’s own high-pitched response was, ‘I’m never coming back.’ Let’s hope that’s not true.
