Acclaimed Oscar-winning British actor and director Sir Richard Attenborogh has died at the age of 90, his son told the BBC on Sunday. Known as “Dickie” in the British arts scene, Attenborough had a snow-white beard that was familiar to generations of British filmgoers and a career that spanned more than 60 years. He won an Oscar for Best Director for the 1982 film Gandhi, starring Ben Kingsley, but he also played the avunular theme-park developer in Jurassic Park and Kris Kringle in a remake of Miracle on 34th Street. Attenborough, whom British Prime Minister David Cameron called “one of the greats of cinema,” had been in poor health for some time. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
