Robert Culp, who rose to fame as a cast member of I Spy in the late 1960s, has reportedly died of a heart attack. I Spy was the first racially integrated program on American television to feature an African American in a leading part, played by Bill Cosby. Off-screen, Culp was active in the civil-rights movement. Following Martin Luther King’s assassination, Culp and Cosby went to Tennessee to join a worker's strike King had been in the process of organizing. Culp worked in stage, television, and film, and was lauded for his performance in 1969's Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice.
