An 11-member panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Wednesday to strike down a voter-approved Arizona law that denies bail to illegal immigrants who have been charged with a felony. The list of felonies include shoplifting, aggravated identity theft, sexual assault, and murder. The court ruled the 2006 law violates due-process rights. Around 78 percent of Arizona voters approved of the law. Other immigration measures introduced that year included making English the official state language, barring some illegal immigrants from receiving punitive damages in lawsuits, and stopping them from receiving some government services and benefits.
