Here's a funny story about a dog with a gun that also carries a serious message: one reason we have so many tragic gun accidents is that guns for the consumer market are engineered in ways that make them dangerously easy to fire unintentionally.

A Massachusetts police dog searching for a handgun not only found the weapon but fired it with his paw, a police chief said Sunday.

No one was injured when K-9 search dog Ivan discharged a bullet as he indicated the gun's location, Lawrence Police Chief John Romero told CNN.

"Everyone on the scene was startled, including Ivan," Romero said with a chuckle.
