From Michelle Obama’s whirlwind inauguration to Kanye’s ski-mask couture, see the fashion highs and lows from this week.

Best Dressed Woman of the Week: Michelle Obama

There may have been a presidential swearing-in take place, but to fashion-conscious inauguration watchers this week, the real question was, who would Michelle wear? When the first lady appeared on the morning of the inauguration in a Thom Browne dress and coat (right), which were custom-made from the fabric of silk neckties, and a J.Crew belt (which quickly sold out), she was widely applauded for her selection. But the real surprise came later that night, when she appeared at the inaugural ball in a red silk draped dress designed for her by Jason Wu, who had designed her first inaugural gown. Another highlight came the next day, when she wore a cream-colored wool coat and dress by Naeem Khan—which had reportedly been in the running for her Inauguration Day look—for the National Prayer Service at the Washington National Cathedral.

Best Dressed, Simple and Statuesque: Emily Blunt

In a black Alexander McQueen column dress and belt at London’s Critics’ Circle Awards, Blunt brought us back to the days when she was just Miranda Priestly’s lowly assistant.

Best Dressed, Short and Sweet: Jennifer Lopez

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Lady Lopez, it’s that she loves wearing cream and being next to naked. Luckily, this time she chose the former—and looked lovely while doing so, in a white peplum (and head-to-toe Lanvin) look.

Best Dressed, Back in Black: Leelee Sobieski

It’s a little manly, to be sure, but Leelee looked chic with two coats, black tights, Chelsea boots, and her hair slicked back as she attended the Dior Haute Couture show Monday in Paris.

Best Dressed Couple of The Week: Jay-Z and Beyoncé

If she hadn’t lip-synced, everything would be perfect.

Worst Dressed, Racy Lacy: Kimberley Walsh

This, ladies and gentlemen, is Kimberley Walsh, British star from Girls Aloud. And this is what she wore to the National Television Awards this week.

Worst Dressed, Mr. West

Aren’t the holes on ski masks usually at the nose and mouth—so you can breathe? Ah, I guess that’s the point. A piece of headwear designed so we can’t understand it. Kanye looked typically Kanye as he entered the Maison Martin Margiela couture show Wednesday in Paris—where they showed (guess what!) ski masks. Guess who’s buying for next season?

Worst Dressed, Taking the Weather Theme a Little Too Literally: Elena Perminova
