Bin Laden Son-in-Law Tried in NYC

The trial of Osama bin Laden’s son-in-law began Monday at a federal courthouse in New York City. Sulaiman Abu Ghaith faces charges of conspiring to kill Americans in his role as the spokesman for al Qaeda. The prosecution plans to show video of Aby Shaith saying in an Oct. 9, 2001, speech that “the Americans must know that the storm of airplanes will not stop, God willing, and there are thousands of young people who are as keen about death as Americans are about life.” The defense already argued that the government’s evidence relates to a detainee at Guantanamo Bay with a similar name, but the judge dismissed that as “utterly meritless.”
