I'm not a Michael fan, and quite frankly, sick of all the coverage these last weeks.
I also was unable to watch the entire memorial, but during lunch I saw Smokey's eulogy. And on several news updates, I caught snipets..
From what I saw, that was one of the most beautiful, heartfelt, and touching memorials I have ever seen. Even I was brought to tears.
And bravo to the people of LA for respecting the wishes of the family....and keeping it real, with no mobs at the Staple Center.
I felt the same way as you. I had no intention of watching it, but my daughter had it on and I ended up watching. It was very classy and low key.
What I mourned is the talented little 10 year old boy. The adult Michael was not that same person, except for the talent. So sad..........
Sorry, but Mariah Carey didn't bring down the house. In a work, she stunk. She was off-key and sounded like she couldn't hit some of the notes.
You're kidding right?
I have trouble watching
Her tortured mannerisms
But she sounded great.
I guess it's a matter of opinion and ear. To me, she sounded awful.
Sorry ;)
Grieving MJ was bad enough, and hearing Mariah was like salt on an open wound.
The women doesn't sing, she yells and is NO supestar, but someone who gets attention b/c she has no problem taking off her clothes, once thats gone she's gone with it.
As for MJ, he at last is at peace. God bless those sweet innocent children. I pray they end up where they will be loved for what they are not who.
I agree. He was a tortured soul. He was a psychic wreck. Now he can sleep.
Michael Jackson's death included
the death of broadcast journalism.
American soldiers were killed this week in Afghanistan,
where was the media ?
Iranians are still fighting for freedom,
where was the media ?
I can't agree more. This whole coverage of his death, his life, his weirdness, etc. has been absolutely ridiculous and way way over the top. What I also find ridiculous, are are the TV talking heads like Diane Diamond, Nancy Grace, and alike who have villified Jackson for years and now are yammering on and on about what a great artist and father he was. It's sickening.
Sophia, I'm a US Army Soldier, I'll say this with the kindest of intentions; we are fighting war so Soldiers will die, there will always be strives in the world but Michael Jackson will only die ONCE. He is an International super style who shattered all records. It is News. People wanted to see the memorial. I was up at my base in Iraq all night to watch this program.
This is not only news, it is big news!!
So poignant. Thank you.
I appreciated Micheal Jackson's talent, loved to watch him move in his best days. But the man, for me, did not connect.
But I remember a man I grieved as if he was my dear friend---John Lennon. Certainly he was not a man who would garner the title of hero in lieu of his many, many mistakes in life.
But he and the rest of the Beatles made music that wall papered the years I came of age. Fantastic music that lassoed my heart and made me feel less alone in a time when every adolescent feels somehow, alone.
So to all those who MJ did the same for I can only say, I understand. He was not my guy, but I know he was yours and I know that feeling of loss.
Many years since my loss, I will say, the music always lives.
Stella- good post!
I'm just absolutely amazed the way in which the media is covering this. Aren't you the folks who labeled him "Wacko Jacko?" Aren't you the people who followed him around unmercifily, if only to point out his eccentricities? Did you not offer 1 million dollars for a picture of Debbie Rowe pregnant?
How do you feel now when his daughter gets up on stage and says that he was "the best daddy anyone could ever have?" Do you think maybe now you can look back and say to yourselves, "We screwed up?"
Are you willing to take responsibility for his death?
God, I hate the media. I was actually a reporter for many years and I left because I couldn't take it anymore.
I don't have anyone's blood on my hands. I've never offered a photographer millions of dollars to invvade anyone's life. I've never portrayed anyone as a worthless, weird human being and then covered his death non-stop for ratings.
How do you sleep at night? How will you get through the rest of your lives knowing that you made someone else's life so miserable that they couldn't even sleep at night?
Shame on all of you............ I suspect your non-stop coverage is a way of assuaging you guilt.
Hooray, you said the truth, and used perfect grammar and spelling while doing it. :)
You stated it better than I could ever had, "How do you sleep at night? How will you get through the rest of your lives knowing that you made someone else's life so miserable that they couldn't even sleep at night?"
If you could only, just one day, meet and talk with some of my foster youth, who were molested, and otherwise abused, you would also recognize the truth of those words!!!
Margot62,
Ditto to your entire statement, and I think I love you.
Media members...oh, boy. Their only commitment is to creating and revomiting 'information' that gets ratings/clicks/eyeballs etc,...Zero remorse or appreciation for shaping public consciousness.
Aside from Charlie Rose and a couple others, who can be taken seriously?
I watched the whole thing on one of my old computers as I worked on the other one, it was really really good. It was so uplifting. The way music used to be.
Where you could hear the words.
"If we start giving, we can make a better world for you and me".
The thing is I would think Michael was not the most prudent person, and he song from his heart, that is why you can't beat him. That other kid, from Wales who sang at the service, with the name that is hard to spell, was good but wasn't Michael, better than me anyway, by a long shot, but it wasn't like Michael, he just sang his heart out, and he was so cute.
That is the Michael that did change the world, for me anyway. He helped me feel the music and believe in something good, could happen.
We can flow in a Good Orderly Direction, if we believe we can, regardless if it offends some, that Good Orderly Direction spells out God, the fact is it does, and probably for a good reason.

As Jack Kennedy said of Richard Nixon, "No class."
How could you truncate "My Destiny" from Stevie Wonder's peerformance? A beautiful pure interpretive classical funeral dirge with with dialogue between piano and the soulfully expressive voice of Stevie Wonder.
Consider putting MSNBC's full version from YouTube. For those who missed the full version it is a must.
Excuse my spelling. While I offer my mea culpa let me also advise that you search for Michael Jackson's version of "Smile" on YouTube shown over cuts of Charlie Chaplin films. It is so reflective of the bittersweet nature of the Memorial's presentation.
Also, as you listen to the second half of Stevie Wonder's performance, notice the incredible range of his voice.
Mariah Carey nauseated me-I had to turn my head- people should get paid to listen to her
Watch more? I'd rather slide down a razor blade lubricated with rubbing alcohol.
Thank you.
