A group of militants suspected to be Boko Haram troops stormed the capital city of Nigeria’s Yobe state. Residents of Damaturu said extremists raided the city Monday morning, targeting a mobile police base. Resident Mike David said the forces were shouting “Allahu akbar” (God is greatest) and firing gunshots at random. “We are still under fire,” Yobe Police Commissioner Marcus Danladi was quoted telling the Premium Times news website. Many residents imposed their own lockdown after hearing gunshots and explosions around 4 a.m. “We don’t know where to hide, the shooting is all over... We are running for our lives,” said Yobe resident Musa Abbas.
