The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating a multi-state outbreak of listeria that has claimed one life and hospitalized nearly a dozen other people. According to the CDC, there have been cases in Michigan, Massachusetts, Indiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. Listeria is a bacteria that is spread by eating contaminated food, and five people who were interviewed said they had eaten packaged salad in the month before they became ill. Two of them said they had eaten Dole salad specifically.
