John Paul Tied to Pedophile Priest

When Pope John Paul II died five years ago, Catholics began immediately to call for him to be made a saint. Now his legacy may be in jeopardy thanks to the sex abuse scandal roiling the Catholic Church. One particular case raising troubling questions about what John Paul knew involves an Austrian cardinal and friend of his, who is accused of abusing an estimated 2,000 boys over a span of many years but did not receive a rebuke from Rome. During a service in Vienna this week, one Austrian cardinal condemned the church's "sinful structures" which allowed abuse to go unpunished.
