Though the White House was denying earlier in the day any staff shakeups, they have now confirmed the imminent departure of National Economic Council Director Lawrence Summers. President Obama is said to have discussed Summers' leave and his plans for the future. According to sources, the administration will look to fill his position with a corporate executive to prove that the president isn't anti-business, and are also seeking to find a woman to fill Summers' shoes. Summers' departure would be consistent with the staff turnover that typically takes place during the second half of a president's term. He will return to Harvard at the end of the year to teach.
