    GOP Leaders Vow State Budget Cuts

    No state budget is safe. As a slew of Republicans take over their new state positions, and with stimulus funds drying up, many have already promised to reduce their state budgets. The GOP now has 690 new seats in state legislatures, five new governors, and currently controls the legislatures and governor’s offices of more than 20 states. Wisconsin and Maine, for instance, have seen power flip with the election of Governors Scott Walker and Paul LePage, respectively. Walker insists that he will be slashing excessive projects like a federally funded rail between Madison and Milwaukee in addition to cutting excessive business costs. Social issues such as abortion and rights for illegal immigrants will be affected as well as Obama’s new health-care plan. Newly elected governors are already contemplating joining a lawsuit over the new health-care laws.
