Oprah and Franzen Reunite

Maybe now Jonathan Franzen can admit he and Oprah have similar tastes in literature. The talk show host has chosen two Dickens classics for her book club, Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities. She will recommend them during today's show in which she welcomes back Jonathan Franzen, nine years after Franzen knocked her for choosing his well-received book The Corrections. The author's ingratitude aside, Oprah has spoken highly of Franzen’s latest, Freedom, and Franzen will likely approve of her nomination of Dickens. Franzen has expressed nostalgia for Dickens’ time, when new literature “was anticipated with the kind of fever that a late-December film release inspires today."
