Rahm Emanuel Kicked Off Chicago Mayor Ballot

Shocker in Chicago: Rahm Emanuel, who left his post in the Obama White House to run for mayor in his hometown, has been booted off the ballot by an appellate court. The panel of three judges ruled 2-1 that Emanuel doesn't meet the residency requirements to run for mayor, overturning a previous court decision in his favor. "We ... order that the candidate's name be excluded (or if, necessary, be removed) from the ballot from Chicago's Feb. 22, 2011," the panel wrote. Emanuel's attorney said the decision was a "surprise," and that he plans to use the the dissenting justice's opinion in his appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court. So far, Emanuel leads the pack of mayoral candidates in fundraising for the race.
