Obama, Abbas Set Meeting

    Take that, Rick Perry. While the 2012 Republican presidential hopeful accused President Obama of a “policy of appeasement” toward Palestine, the White House announced on Tuesday night that Obama will meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday as a late addition to his schedule tomorrow. While Abbas forges ahead with his campaign for statehood by the U.N. Security Council, the Obama administration is intervening in hopes that Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will enter into direct peace negotiations to avoid what could potentially be a diplomatic disaster. Obama will also meet with Netanyahu after delivering his address to the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday.
