Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, who was sworn in this past July, has unexpectedly asked Prime Minister Salomon Lerner to step down. The surprising move is an attempt to allow for a broader cabinet shuffle. Under Peruvian law, if a prime minister resigns, the rest of the ministers must turn over their posts as well, giving the president full power to choose whether or not they will stay or go. The shakeup is particularly surprising given that Humala rolled out a promising cabinet full of business executives and notables from the Peruvian government when he took oath in July.
