Chile was rocked by a magnitude-7.2 earthquake on Sunday night. The quake was 19 miles deep and struck 20 miles north of Talca and roughly 134 miles south of Santiago. There were no reports of casualties or damage, though phone service was lost because of heavy traffic. The Chilean navy emphasized that it was not the type of quake to cause a tsunami, but the national emergency office issued an evacuation order for costal residents.
