Europe Pulls Off Ryder Cup Win

    European golfers pulled off a previously unthinkable feat on Sunday, pulling ahead of the Americans to win the Ryder Cup. That sense of false security may have been precisely what did the Americans in as they managed to fritter away a strong lead on Saturday to allow the Europeans to stage a Sunday comeback despite heading into the day’s singles matches behind 10–6. The match summoned memories of a similar comeback story at Brookline in 1999, when the Americans batted back the European opposition to manage a win despite a similarly daunting European lead.
