Commemorations were held in Bali on Friday in honor of the anniversary of the bombings that killed 202 people 10 years ago. On October 12, 2002, an Islamist militant group attacked Paddy's Irish bar and the Sari Club in the Kuta tourist district, resulting in the deaths of people from 21 countries. This Wednesday, police in Bali warned of the possibility that visiting dignitaries might once again be subject to attack on the anniversary, so security at memorial services on Friday was tight.
