The body of former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat will be exhumed next month by criminal investigators, a French official reported Tuesday. The exhumation will take place sometime between Nov. 24 and Nov. 26. A member of Switzerland’s Institute of Radiation Physics will work with the French team to conduct an autopsy on the remains in order to reexamine the circumstances surrounding Arafat’s death. Though Arafat died in November 2004, a Swiss lab recently discovered traces of polonium-210 on clothes that were purportedly his, raising suspicions of poisoning. Palestinian authorities, speaking anonymously, confirmed the timetable.
