Ninety-four-year-old anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela is “comfortable and in good care” after a night in the hospital, President Jacob Zuma said Sunday. South Africans gathered anxiously across the country after the man who helped lead their country out of the horrors of racial division was admitted to a military hospital Saturday. Mandela has mostly absented himself from public life over the past decade, last making an appearance during the 2010 World Cup for soccer. On Saturday, Zuma’s office issued a statement saying only that Mandela was receiving care “consistent for his age.”
