Steven Speilberg’s Lincoln is getting a helping hand from Lord Peter Mandelson. Movie executives hired Mandelson to help promote the film, likely hoping that his skills as a spin doctor would be an asset to promoting the movie during the awards season. After twice resigning from Tony Blair’s cabinet, Mandelson was made Britain’s European commissioner and became Gordon Brown’s business secretary. Mandelson appears in a video about the movie, in which he talks about the life and character of Abraham Lincoln and discusses the difficulties faced by those in high political office.
