Vatican to Cardinals: Shut Up

Cardinal Dominik Duka, of the Czech Republic, is escorted by police as he arrives for a meeting, at the Vatican on March 4, 2013.

These are some chatty cardinals. Vatican officials told cardinals to stop speaking to the media, and a spokeswoman for the American cardinals said “concern” has been expressed “about leaks of confidential proceedings reported in Italian newspapers.” It appears the conclave to pick the next pope will be delayed beyond early next week, when it was initially expected the cardinals would meet. All but two of the 115 cardinal electors have arrived in Rome for the vote.
