    Defense Turns to Women

    Struggling companies take note. As the defense industry heads into some tough times, major companies including General Dynamics, BAE Systems, and Lockheed Martin have appointed female chief executives to lead them. The three women leading the companies, Phebe Novakovic, Linda Hudson, and Marillyn A. Hewson, respectively, worked their way over the years to the top of the defense community. Now with sequestration and a winding down of the post-9/11 defense boom, all three are faced with major economic headwinds.
