Japan Enters Free-Trade Talks

As part of his economic strategy, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is expected to announce Japan’s participation in talks about joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership led by the U.S. Joining the pact could remove some of Japan’s tough tariffs, and not only allow the country to compete with fast growing rivals like South Korea but add strength to the U.S. as a balance to China in the region.
