Texts, Laptop Snared Bomber’s Friends

This undated photo from the VK page of Dias Kadyrbayev shows, from left, Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev, from Kazakhstan, with Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in Times Square in New York. The arrest of Dias Kadyrbayev was announced on May 1, 2013 along with 2 others.

Details are emerging about the three additional possible accomplices to the Boston bombings. One, Dias Kadyrbayev, met Dzhokhar Tsarnaev when they both started at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. According to an FBI affidavit based on interviews with the three individuals, on the night when Tsarnaev would be captured, Kadyrbayev and two others went to his dorm to watch a movie. They had been texting Tsarnaev about the bombing and believed he was joking, but realized he was involved when they found bomb materials in his dorm room. Panicking, they decided to take his backpack and laptop, which they later dumped in a landfill.
