For the cast of Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, the red carpet at the 66th annual Cannes Film Festival may have been the best part. After making a splash outside the event, the film was met with a meager “polite but muted applause.” It was an unusual turn for Australian director Baz Luhrmann, whose 2001 film, Moulin Rouge, received a standing ovation. Leonardo DiCaprio, who stars as Jay Gatsby, and Carey Mulligan, who plays his obsession, Daisy, appeared unbothered by the lukewarm reception. Leo, for one, has bigger fish to fry.
