The literary mystery of the year has been solved. The London entertainment law firm Russells admitted Thursday that one of its partners was responsible for revealing that J.K. Rowling was the author Robert Galbraith, who wrote the “debut” detective novel The Cuckoo’s Calling. The partner, Chris Gossage, told the information to his wife’s best friend, Judith Callegari. Callegari then tweeted it to The Sunday Times, prompting an investigation and ensuing article. The law firm has apologized on Gossage’s behalf. Rowling, however, released a statement saying that “I had assumed that I could expect total confidentiality from Russells, a reputable professional firm, and I feel very angry that my trust turned out to be misplaced.”
