Serena Williams won the U.S. Open championship Sunday, beating opponent Victoria Azarenka in three sets. The final score was 7-6, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1. It was Williams's most difficult match of the tournament, and the former champion seemed a little rattled because of the wind. She had dropped just 16 games coming into the final, and had opportunities to close out the match in the second set, but allowed Azarenka to come back. The win ends a great year for Williams who went 67-4 and won nine tournaments. She now has 17 Grand Slam titles to her name.
