    Russia, the country currently embroiled in a global controversy over its persecution of the LBGT community, actually thought it could book Cher? The legendary gay icon, advocate, and mother to transgender son, Chaz, turned down a gig at the Sochi Olympic Games after a friend “who is a big oligarch over there,” called and asked her to be an ambassador. “I immediately said no.” she told Canada’s Maclean’s magazine. “I want to know why all of this gay hate just exploded over there. He said the Russian people don’t feel the way the government does.” If they could turn back time…
