Obama May Meet New Iran Prez

Believe it? U.S. President Barack Obama and Iran’s newly elected President Hassan Rouhani could meet next week at the U.N. General Assembly in New York, making another step toward easing decades of diplomatic tension as well as sanctions that have crippled the Middle Eastern nation. The two leaders have already exchanged letters, and Rouhani has shown a willingness to lead a more moderate Iran—he tweeted wishes for a blessed Rosh Hashanah earlier this month, has released political prisoners, and has condemned chemical-weapons attacks in Syria. “We must work together to end the unhealthy rivalries and interferences that fuel violence and drive us apart,” Rouhani said in an op-ed for the Washington Post yesterday.
