An icon since being introduced in Pep Comics in 1941, Archie Andrews will die in the upcoming issue of Life With Archie. According to the publisher, Archie will sacrifice his life to save a friend. The series will continue without him, focusing on his love interests Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge, and well as best friend Jughead Jones and frenemy Reggie Mantle. The issue will come out this July. “Fans will laugh, cry, jump off the edge of their seats, and hopefully understand why this comic will go down as one of the most important moments in Archie’s entire history. It’s the biggest story we’ve ever done, and we’re supremely proud of it,” said publisher Jon Goldwater. Archie has been in the news a lot in recent years, first for its introduction of a gay character in 2010, and then having longtime Archie fan Lena Dunham write a four-part story for the comic. However, this is not the only series about Archie, and thus the popular fixture is not gone for good, and will still live on in other storylines.
