Life Sentence Sought for Seattle Shooter

As news of a school shooting in Oregon hit Tuesday, the 26-year-old man charged with killing one student and wounding two at Seattle Pacific University last week was charged with four counts, including first-degree murder. If convicted, Aaron Rey Ybarra could face 69 to 86 years in jail, but prosecutors say they plan to request life in prison under a "rarely used" provision for an "outrageous act of public violence." Before the killing last week, Prosecutor Dan Satterberg says Ybarra wrote: "I just want people to die, and I’m going to die with them!" and said he was inspired by shootings at Columbine and Virginia Tech.
