Palestinian Death Toll Tops 120

Palestinians survey the rubble of a mosque, which police said was destroyed in an Israeli air strike, in Nuseirat in the central Gaza Strip July 12, 2014. An air strike outside a family home early Saturday pushed the Palestinian death toll past 100 in four days of cross-border fighting as Israel showed no sign of pausing despite international pressure to negotiate a ceasefire with the militants. Israel aimed airstrikes at a mosque in Gaza, which also reportedly hit a center for the disabled on Saturday, killing two women and bringing the Palestinian death toll to more than 120, according to Palestinian officials. The Israeli military believes the mosque hid rockets, though it says it is still investigating Palestine’s claims about the other sites that were said to have been hit. Saturday marked the fifth day since Gaza’s Hamas militants began their offensive against Israel (as of press time, no Israelis have been killed by the latest round of Hamas rockets). In addition to the 120 killed, more than 920 Palestinians have been wounded, according to Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Kidra. Dozens of the dead have been civilians.
