John Lennon Killer Must Serve More Time

Mark David Chapman, the man convicted of killing former Beatle John Lennon, has been denied parole for the eight time and must stay in prison at least two more years. A three-person Parole Board announced their decision on Friday, writing, “the panel has determined that if released at this time, there is a reasonable probability that you would not live and remain at liberty without again violating the law.” The panel further added that “your release would be incompatible with the welfare of society and would so deprecate the serious nature of the crime as to undermine respect for the law.” Chapman, now 59, is serving a 20-year to life sentence at Wende Correctional Facility after gunning down Lennon in 1980 as he returned home from a late night recording session with his wife, Yoko Ono.
