New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie spearheaded the raising of millions of dollars and campaigned heavily for the Republican Party in the runup to the midterm elections, and party stalwarts say his efforts helped score a series of gubernatorial election wins on Tuesday. Christie, who is chairman of the Republican Governors Association this cycle, oversaw a record fundraising effort and coast-to-coast campaign schedule that ended with the GOP picking up at least three seats, including unexpected wins in such blue states as Maryland and Illinois. Under Christie, the GOP hauled in $97 million this year and spent more than $130 million.
