The off-duty Chicago police detective who shot and killed Rekia Boyd three years ago was found not guilty by a judge on Monday. Dante Servin faced three charges of including involuntary manslaughter after opening fire on a group of people when, he said, he saw a man point what looked like a gun at him. (It was in fact a phone.) The judge acquitted Servin before his defense made its case, saying that the prosecution had not proven reckless action required for all three of the crimes. Servin was the first Chicago police officer to be charged in a deadly shooting in the past 15 years.
