A British police group tasked with investigating child sex abuse has stated that more than 1,433 men have been implicated in its findings—and that 261 of those named could be considered “high profile.” The allegations span many years and some of those accused are now dead or in prison, according to Operation Hydrant head Simon Bailey. Of the 261 prominent names, 76 are politicians, while most of those remaining are figures in music, film, television, and radio. Operation Hydrant was set up in 2014 to investigate non-recent sex abuse, and leaders say the number of victims may be in the hundreds of thousands, in part because many of the locations where the abuse took place were identified as schools, childrens’ homes, and religious institutions.
