A World Anti-Doping Agency report released Monday confirmed claims that Russian Olympic athletes participated in state-sponsored doping during the 2014 Sochi Winter Games. In May, a lab director for the country told The New York Times he was ordered to cover up the use of performance-enhancing drugs. He said Russian officials told him to execute the doping program. “The surprise result of the Sochi investigation was the revelation of the extent of state oversight and directed control of the Moscow laboratory in processing, and covering up urine samples of Russian athletes from virtually all sports before and after the Sochi Games,” Richard McLaren, a Canadian lawyer commissioned by the antidoping organization, wrote in the report, which was completed after a two-month investigation.
