Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei warned Wednesday that if the U.S. approved new sanctions against the country, it would violate the major powers’ nuclear agreement and provoke a response. Last week, the House of Representatives passed the Iran Sanctions Act, which will expire at the end of the year if it is not re-authorized for another 10 years. Any new sanctions would be a violation of the nuclear agreement, Khamenei said. “The current U.S. government has breached the nuclear deal in many occasions,” he said. “The latest is extension of sanctions for 10 years, that if it happens, would surely be against [the nuclear agreement], and the Islamic Republic would definitely react to it.” President Obama has vowed to veto the legislation if it ever gets to his desk.
