As the trial against Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev continues, several police officers testified about the night of the shootout with the defendant and his brother. Joseph Reynolds, who spotted the Mercedes SUV the Tsarnaevs had stolen, recounted seeing them driving “slow, very suspicious,” according to USA Today. Then, Tamerlan Tsarnaev got out, approached the police vehicle, and sparked a barrage of gunfire that lasted eight minutes. After calling for backup, the cops “continued the gunfight,” seeing “muzzle flashes, a lighter being lit, and what looked like a wick burning.” Four pipe bombs, one that turned out to be a dud, flew toward the police. “It was horrendous. A lot of debris—I thought shingles were coming off houses… a lot of smoke, car alarms, people screaming.” Other witnesses expected to testify include residents of the Watertown, Massachusetts, street where the shootout took place, as well as the owner of the boat that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was hiding in when he was arrested.
