Power Duos

Dave Franco, Elle Fanning & More Younger Celebrity Siblings (Photos)

Dave Franco, Elle Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen & more celebrities who are outshining their older siblings.

Dave Franco, James Franco’s little brother, is making quite a name for himself with a leading role in 21 Jump Street and his homoerotic videos for Funny Or Die. See other celebrity siblings who may one day outshine their famous older siblings.

Dave Franco

From academia to Hollywood to the art world, there’s hardly a frontier left that James Franco hasn’t tried conquering. However, as he delves into his doctorate studies at Yale and works on the upcoming Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz: The Great and Powerful (in which James will play the wizard), there’s room for one more Franco to join the scene: his youngest brother, Dave. With a lauded role as the villain in 21 Jump Street, a cover shoot for GQ’s style issue and the premiere of his short film at South By Southwest, 26-year-old Dave is hard at work putting his name on the map. And if he’s even half as hard-working as his older brother James, we have no doubt he’ll succeed.

Elle Fanning

Ever since she starred alongside Sean Penn and Michelle Pfeiffer in 2001’s I Am Sam, Dakota Fanning’s been downright ubiquitous on the big screen. But while Dakota’s gone from playing sweet and innocent types to donning vampire gear in the Twilight movies and posing for risqué perfume ads, eyeballs have turned to a new Fanning: Elle. Though she’s only 14, Elle’s got the same angelic good looks and acting chops that helped her sister win audiences over (see Elle’s Marc Jacobs ad campaign and her screen-stealing turn in last year’s Super 8). She’s even rumored to have earned herself a spot opposite Angelina Jolie in the upcoming Sleeping Beauty flick, Maleficent. Although the two blond sisters each have immensely successful careers, they’re still not without their share of rivalry. “She is a nice older sister,” Elle said to W magazine about Dakota. “But it’s not like we always get along.”

Elizabeth Olsen

With Ashley’s recent adieu to the world of acting, there’s room for a new Olsen sister to take over—which is exactly what Elizabeth Olsen has been doing ever since her raved-about breakout performance in last year’s Martha Marcy May Marlene. Though she stayed largely in the shadows of her megafamous older sisters until last year, Elizabeth apparently always had the acting bug. She joined the Atlantic Theater Company as a college sophomore, performed in Off-Broadway productions and studied at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Now, with five feature films under her belt (including a starring role in Liberal Arts, which earned a standing ovation at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and her most recent film, the horror flick Silent House) and at least three more films on the way, it looks like the Olsen name is here to stay.

Kendall Jenner

Though a certain Mad Man has recently gone public with his distaste for Kendall’s older sister Kim, the youngest Kardashian sister hasn’t been plagued with much controversy—yet. With a burgeoning modeling career (and apparently very mature taste in poses), 16-year-old Kendall Jenner is bound to make a name for herself, though hopefully not the same way that Kim made hers. For now, Kendall is completely focused on modeling, even considering skipping college in order to launch her career.

Rory Culkin

Nearly everyone remembers the iconic movie poster for Home Alone, with then-10-year-old Macaulay Culkin’s hands clapped to either side of his shocked face. However, Culkin’s movie career came to pretty much a halt after his starring role as the adorable Richie Rich. Macaulay’s quick exit from mainstream film made way for his younger brother Rory to graduate from playing younger versions of Macaulay to acquiring his own starring roles. Rory’s newest film, Electrick Children, debuted at this year’s Berlin Film Festival and featured him playing an apathetic dropout who falls for and marries a Mormon girl in Las Vegas who believes she’s immaculately conceived a child. Rory also starred opposite Emma Roberts in 2008’s Lymelife, in which he played another tortured character, this time at the center of a dysfunctional family.

Alex Watson

Much has been made about the good looks of Emma Watson, better known to many as Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter film series. But the real model in the family is her younger brother Alex, who made a splash in the fashion world when he appeared alongside his photogenic sister in Burberry’s Spring 2010 campaign. Despite the good looks in his genes, he maintained an air of modesty in an interview with The Independent, saying, “I never thought I’d have the potential to do anything like that or thought about myself in that way. So it is pretty surprising.” He’s also had some experience in front of a movie camera, playing an extra in his sister’s Harry Potter films twice. Just like his big sis, he was a Gryffindor.

Liam Hemsworth

22-year-old Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, who starred in 2010’s The Last Song (and began dating Miley Cyrus afterward), caught the eye of American directors even before his older brother Chris did. In fact, Chris’s biggest credit to date, the title role in last summer’s superhero blockbuster Thor, almost went to his little brother! Thor director Kenneth Branagh initially shortened his list of potential leads to four actors, including Liam (and excluding Chris)—but in the end, Chris won the hammer and helmet of the Viking lead role. He couldn’t have done it without the help of his younger brother though, who gave him tips based on his own experience in the screen tests for the role. “We’re competitive,” Chris told The Hollywood Reporter. “But in the best way.” There’ll be plenty of Liam to come though, with his role as Gale Hawthorne in the upcoming film The Hunger Games.

Jamie Lynn Spears

Jamie Lynn Spears may have started out being known mostly just as “Britney Spears’s little sister,” but with her title role as Zoey in the hit Nickelodeon show Zoey 101, Jamie Lynn became a star in her own right. The show ended, however, when she announced at the age of 16 that she was pregnant with the baby of her then-boyfriend Casey Aldridge. For four years, Jamie Lynn stayed off the Hollywood radar as she moved back to Louisiana to raise her daughter, Maddie. But in November of last year, she made her debut as a country singer on a Nashville stage. Where the now 20-year-old’s career takes her next remains to be seen, but we’re sure she’s not done with the spotlight quite yet.

Pippa Middleton

It was the derriere seen ‘round the world. Pippa Middleton’s appearance at her sister Kate’s wedding to Prince William catapulted her onto the front pages of the world’s papers, some of which focused on her breathtaking Sarah Burton bridesmaid gown, and many of which focused on her scene-stealing butt (which has its own website, Facebook appreciation society, and has become the inspiration behind a butt-lift craze). Pippa even became Google Zeitgeist’s #3 Fastest-Rising Person of 2011, beating out her princess bride sister by seven spots.

Prince Harry

On the groom’s side of the aisle during the royal wedding, Prince Harry’s butt didn’t spawn any Facebook fan pages, but in the months afterward, his partying antics and “playboy prince” reputation likely earned him more headlines than his more reserved, stately older brother William. Par for the course, Harry! The younger royal is so good at stealing the spotlight, in fact, that this week he was allegedly ordered by the palace to tone it down a bit while his grandmother’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations take place.
