Democratic presidential candidate John Hickenlooper has questioned why female 2020 contenders are not being asked if they’d nominate a man to serve as vice president. At a CNN town-hall forum in Atlanta late Wednesday, Hickenlooper was asked whether he would do the same as other male 2020 contenders and vow to put a woman on the ticket. “Of course,” he said, before going on to add, “How come we’re not asking the women more often: Would you put a man on the ticket?” The comments quickly triggered criticism on social media, with many saying Hickenlooper’s comments ignored the reality of gender inequality. Sen. Cory Booker and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke have both signaled they would consider selecting a woman as a vice-presidential running mate.
