Killjoys at the UK government has released figures suggesting that the Diamond Jubilee will cost the country anywhere from £1.2bn to £3.6bn pounds in lost earnings.
Although many had assumed the celebrations will attract large amounts of visitors and tourist dollars to England, the Department of Culture has estimated that the loss in output created by the extra holiday being given to British workers will negatively affect output on balance.
The assessment chimes with remarks made by Bank of England Governor Mervyn King who warned that the extra public holiday could tip the UK back into recession.
A holiday which usually falls at the end of May has been moved to Monday, June 4, and the next day has also been designated a day off to mark the event.
However not one of the economic clever clogs, as far as the Royalist can discern, has mentioned that 2012 is a leap year, so surely there is an extra day to play with anyway?
