Recovery from liver surgery and a heart condition will have to wait. Pulled from his hospital bed, former Guatemalan president Alfonso Portillo was extradited Friday to the U.S., where he faces charges of laundering $70 million in Guatemalan funds through U.S. bank accounts. Portillo, who led the Central American country from 2000 to 2004, was actually arrested in 2010 but has denied any wrongdoing since and says his political enemies orchestrated the accusations against him.
