Four coalition troops and one Afghan civilian were killed by a roadside bomb today, a grim reminder that the war in Afghanistan is far from over. As of last week, at least 581 troops have died since the invasion of Afghanistan began in 2001, according to the AP. With 38,000 American troops currently serving there, President Obama has ordered a "surge" of 17,000 more troops to the region. The New York Times reported that civilian deaths in Afghanistan rose by 40 percent in 2008.
