A female corrections officer at a prison in Abilene, Texas, was killed, and police are investigating her death as a homicide. Mari Johnson, 55, was found near a kitchen in the prison early Saturday morning, said a statement from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. "We will see that the offender who committed this cowardly act is held accountable," said Brad Livingston, Executive Director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Further details surrounding Johnson's death were not provided, but Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement that an inmate was responsible for Johnson's killing. He promised "swift justice" for her death. "Like all those who faithfully serve, Mari was dedicated to protecting others, and her service will not be forgotten," Abbott said.
