Carly Fiorina, the Republican Senate nominee in California, was hospitalized on Tuesday with an infection related to post-breast-cancer surgery. A campaign staffer said Fiorina is experiencing a fairly common side effect and could be back on the campaign trail in a day or too, but the ailment comes at a critical time for her race—one that The Daily Beast's Election Oracle rates as neck-and-neck. "Carly is upbeat and her doctors expect her to make a quick and full recovery and be back out on the campaign trail soon," a spokeswoman from her campaign said. Boxer's campaign also issued a sympathetic note: "We wish Carly Fiorina a speedy recovery." Fiorina was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2009.
