The Wackiest ‘Star Trek’ Merchandise: From Spock Socks to Tribble Slippers (PHOTOS)

In anticipation of the release of Star Trek Into Darkness, we’ve rounded up the most outrageous Trekkie gear.

Star Trek Merchandise

Since its inception in the mid-1960s, Star Trek has maintained one of the most loyal fan bases out of any franchise in entertainment history. The so-called Trekkies (or Trekkers, depending on whom you talk to) have demonstrated their enthusiasm for the fictional universe in myriad ways—one of the most recognizable being the outrageous merchandise they wear to celebrate its most prominent characters. In anticipation of the release of J.J. Abrams’s upcoming film Star Trek Into Darkness, which hits theaters May 16, we’ve rounded up the most over-the-top Trekkie gear. Take a look.

Spock Oven Mitt

This goofy kitchen accessory from online retailer ThinkGeek is named after Mister Spock, the half-human, half-Vulcan officer aboard the starship Enterprise, and replicates the infamous Vulcan salute—a hand gesture in which the hand is raised in the air and the fingers are separated between the middle and ring finger, with the thumb extended outward. The salute is typically followed by the expression “Live long and prosper.” A corresponding video for the oven mitt cleverly features the slogan “Cook long and prosper.”

Star Trek Spock Oven Mitt, $14.99.

Captain Kirk Bath Robe

Robe Factory, a company that specializes in branded superhero loungewear, created this plush yellow robe based on the uniform worn by Captain Kirk, captain of the Enterprise. Similar to Kirk’s long-sleeve sweater, this robe features an embroidered communicator badge on the left chest. Beam me up, Scotty.

Robe Factory Star Trek Kirk Bath Robe, $59.99.

Phaser Gun

A toy replica of the deadly weapon first used in the original Star Trek series, and then in most subsequent iterations. This model, sold at Target, is based on the one featured in the 2009 film and is more compact than some of its larger, sniper-like predecessors.

Star Trek Phaser Gun, $8.99.

Spock Wig With Ears

This blunt, bowl-cut wig allows the wearer to rock the same ’do as the Enterprise’s most esteemed officer, Mister Spock, and comes complete with Spock ears to emphasize his mixed human-Vulcan ancestry.

Star Trek Classic Spock Wig With Ears, $9.99.

Captain Kirk Bath Towel

Entertainment website Old Glory brings space fandom back to planet Earth with a beach-ready version of Captain Kirk’s uniform, prominently featuring the Star Fleet insignia in gold. As the product description reads, it’s “a far less savage curtain than that of Yarnek.”

Kirk Cotton Bath Towel, $28.95.

Tribble Slippers

Another quirky product from ThinkGeek, these bedroom slippers, modeled after the fluffy, fictional animals of the Star Trek universe, mimics the purring sound let out by the creatures with every step. An accompanying video shows the tribbles being put to work.

Star Trek Tribble Slippers With Sound, $24.99.

Star Trek Converse

These made-to-order, hand-painted Converse sneakers, created by a London-based painter, feature the Star Fleet symbol emblazoned on the sides and the words “Star” and “Trek” painted toward the toe of each shoe.

Hand-Painted Star Trek Converse, $109.

Star Trek Socks

This set of socks, sold by online retailer Perpetual Kid, features three designs that match the uniforms of Star Trek’s three best-known characters: Captain Kirk, Mister Spock, and Montgomery Scott, a.k.a. Scotty.

Star Trek Sock Set, $25.99 for three.

Pon Farr Perfume

With the combined scents of citrus, blackcurrant, lotus blossom, and water lily, this fragrance attempts to seduce male Vulcans experiencing pon farr—a condition in which Vulcans go into heat and face potentially lethal psychophysical conditions unless they immediately mate.

Star Trek Pon Farr Perfume, $29.99.

Spock Ear iPhone Case

Case Envy, an Etsy seller that specializes in unique cellphone cases, created this Star Trek–inspired iPhone case, with a Spock ear design that makes you look like a Vulcan while talking on the phone.
